Mustang Spiritual Tour
Mustang Spiritual Tour is located at mid – western Himalaya, behind Annapurna Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalaya Range. Mustang “Land of Beyond Himalaya” is also known as last forbidden kingdom of Nepal is situated at Kali gandaki valley having largely dry and arid land at Tibetan plateau . Mustang has several historic, cultural and spiritual sites among them some of sites date back to four thousand BC.
Mustang or LHO kingdom was as independent kingdom dominated with Tibetan culture and tradition and it was trade center between India and Tibet before. Upper mustang was opened for traveler from 1992 only with some special formalities and special trekking permit. Upper Mustang has hundred of ancient monasteries, sky caves, ancient palaces, traditional village with extraordinary natural beauty and landscape. This region is rich on Tibetan Buddhist culture having many spiritual and cultural aspects.
According to history and Locals from Lho Kingdom (Upper Mustang) , There were four re-treat complexes which are now as meditation caves or re-treat centers as Ganden ling , Phuntsok Ling , Ritse ling and Konchok ling in Inner Mustang, among them some are in good condition and restored as monasteries, some of these retreat sites (caves) has only significant sign inside due to soil erosion .Those places are dated more than 500 years, phuntsog ling is the most damaged externally by climate change and human activities. Konchok Ling cave is on steep part and need rope to climb up there.
Due to huge opportunity to explore many things together, upper mustang is being very popular destination for all types of tour. People, who want self meditation, retreat and refreshment trip can get full of joy from Inner mustang tour and trekking. Due to rain shadow zone, travelers can plan trip to Upper and Inner Mustang on rainy season too. Generally upper and inner mustang trip will be organized on April- May- June and August- September – October and November. It is very cold on winter months starting from December to February. July is rainy month on lower part of Mustang and it may make problem on entry and exit from Upper mustang as domestic flight and transportation to Jomsom may make problem.
At first part of Mustang Spiritual Tour program till Lo-mangtang we use jeep drive with visiting many monument and spiritual sites as well as use guest house for meal and accommodation, Lo-mangtang is a medieval town surrounded by town- wall around, it was the administrative center of Lo kingdom so have palace of king in centre of town and have 4 different monasteries around. After lo-mangtang we arrange organize tented camp with cook and helpers for those who want to explore inner mustang with tented wilderness camps.
